Numenta Partner Program
The Numenta Partner Program (NPP) is a support program that provides the highest level of technical support, training, access to Numenta staff, and influence over the design of Numenta products. It establishes a close relationship between Numenta and developer partners who would like to understand, experiment with, and ultimately deploy, the Numenta Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) technology.
The NPP is an annual program on a calendar year basis. Currently, we have 7 companies participating and we are in the process of evaluating others. Participants pay a fee and agree to invest internal resources in the project.
NPP Benefits
NPP provides a high level of developer support, and allows participants to help influence the direction of the Numenta Platform.
Support
- jumpstart program providing eight hours of expedited support for set up
- annual one-on-one with Numenta staff to share detailed results and solve problems
- phone support to debug and deploy an HTM network against a specific problem (on a reasonable basis)
- in-depth quarterly briefings with all NPP partners and with the Numenta technical team (three participants from each partner)
- access to the Numenta HTM server cluster for running HTM networks on a pre-configured environment (on a reasonable basis)
- escalation path into engineering for problem solving
Community
- opportunity to give input to shape our priorities, technology directions and programs
- opportunity to serve as a reference account or to have visibility with the press (optional)
- opportunity to be a sponsor of our 2007 Developer Symposium at no additional charge (date TBD, but likely second half of 2007) (optional)
- opportunity to present at our 2007 Developer Symposium (optional)
- 2 complimentary admissions for the 2007 Developer Symposium
Note that cluster time and one-on-one support will be available at a separate charge.
Qualified Participants
NPP has a very limited membership and we require that participants have a high level of commitment and are focused on solving problems appropriate for HTM.
Participants must agree to the following:
- attend quarterly meetings (up to three individuals from a participant company)
- devote enough internal resources to the project to provide useful feedback
Numenta seeks NPP participants with the following characteristics:
- able to invest resources in exploring the uses of HTM (NPP participants should expect to undergo a period of research before returning commercial results)
- have identified problems to solve that have attributes that fit HTM technology (described below)
- have access to simulated or real data that can be used to train the HTM system and test the results
- have staff to assign to the project who have experience in statistics, mathematics and/or machine learning
The problems that fit HTM technology generally have the following characteristics:
- a need to discover the causes in underlying data (i.e. find patterns in complex data)
- a need to infer causes of novel input data (i.e. recognize how new data fits into prior patterns)
- the need to predict future input (optional)
- problems that require generalization, or invariance, as opposed to problems that require precise mapping
- the overall problem space has a spatial and/or temporal hierarchical organization (these concepts are explained in the HTM concepts white paper)
- input data may require integrating two or more diverse sensory inputs such as audio and vision (optional)
Problems that require precise timing or tempo, such as human speech, ultimately should be addressable by HTM technology. Currently, however, our tool set cannot handle the precise timing needed for these problems. As such, partners' problems for this year should not require precise timing.
